Clos des Ombres
RedWild cherry and pomegranate over forest floor and a thread of woodsmoke. Fine-boned tannin, cool acidity, a long saline close. The estate wine we are known for.
Eighteen hectares of old vines on a north-facing limestone slope, farmed by one family for five generations. We harvest by hand, press by gravity, and let the valley keep its own patient time.
When Henri Vallombre planted his first parcels in 1878, the neighbours called the north slope a mistake — too cool, too slow to ripen. He believed the shade was the point. A long, unhurried season lets the fruit keep its acidity and gather scent rather than sugar.
Five generations later, little has changed by design. The old vines are still tended and picked by hand, the cellar still works by gravity through three vaulted levels cut into the limestone, and nothing leaves the estate until it is ready to be poured.
A small, deliberate range — each cuvée from a single exposition, bottled unfined and released only when the vaulted cellar says it is ready.

Black pepper, crushed violet and cured olive, with iron and bramble beneath. Structured and savoury, built for the table and for time. From the warmest, stoniest terraces.
Beeswax and white peach lifted by struck flint and lemon oil. Fermented and aged on the lees in old oak, so the texture is broad but the finish stays chalk-dry and tense.
Redcurrant, blood orange and a snap of white pepper. Bled from the estate Pinot on the first night of harvest — pale copper, dry, and made to drink young over a long lunch.
Quince paste, dried apricot, candied citron and warm hazelnut. Grapes dried on straw mats through the winter, pressed at the solstice — unctuous yet cut by bright, luminous acidity.
Allocations are small and sold from the cellar door and to our mailing list. Prices shown are estate-door, tax included.
